As far as incentives for children to learn in schools go, we think at the Brandywine Middle school in Nile, Michigan has found the best idea. For seventh and eighth grade students if the get good grades they get great rewards like going on school trips.
If the students in these grades receive a grand point average of 3.0 or higher they will get to go on a special school trip at the end of each nine week marking period.
In the fall of last year students who achieved the grades got to go on a school trip roller skating and the latest school trip for the students who achieved their grades went to Joey Armadillo's for an afternoon of bowling.
The eighth grade maths teacher of the school said: "This is what we do as an award system for the kids. It's a way to motivate students to do better in the classroom,"
The school is now in its third year of rewarding its students with a school trip and they have said there has been a dramatic increase in the way the students have taken to learning.
Pomranka, the maths teacher added "It makes a difference. They see that hard work can pay off. For most of this week, I overheard kids talking about this event. They were excited to go bowling".
